The Norwegian Diabetes Register for Adults

The Norwegian Diabetes Register for Adults is a National Quality Register. Its main aim is to improve the quality of treatment for people with diabetes. The Register also provides data for research on diabetes and diabetes-related conditions.

Noklus is responsible for the development and day-to-day running of the Register which is funded by the Western Norway Regional Health Authority. Haukeland University Hospital owns the Register and is responsible for ensuring that the health data it holds is handled in compliance with the Norwegian regulations that apply for the processing of personal data. The Register collects data from general practitioners, specialists and hospital outpatient departments.

The submission of data to the Register is voluntary. Medical personnel choose to do so on their own accord, subject to the patient's written consent. The Register has been approved by the Norwegian Data Inspectorate.

The Register issues annual quality reports to participating medical centres and individual doctors. The report compares results from the local unit with aggregated data from all participating centers (bench-marking).
